Fundraiser for Ethan Gerrard

Donation protected
Cancer has become an everyday word and more often than not, you hear of someone else who has been affected. With my mother who is a breast cancer survivor, and many friends and family who have won, and others lost the fight against this terrible disease. I have tried to support in anyway possible the numerous fundraisings and benefits that I have come across over the years. I will continue to do so in hope that someday cancer is an everyday word, but with a cure.

This time the Monster has hit too close to Home, my brother's little boy was diagnosed with leukemia 2 years ago and is now in the battle of his life. The emotional and financial burden on the family has been very difficult and it is our turn to ask for help. A fundraiser will be held Friday, August 30th, featuring prizes and live music from Phil Boudreau, and the Vanier Blues Band.

Ethan's story

Ethan Gerrard, son of Chad Gerrard and Amanda Landry was diagnosed with leukemia 2 years ago 5 days after his 4th birthday in Regina, he was immediately airlifted to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton where he spent 3 months enduring very aggressive treatments. To ensure the best possible care and be closer to family and friends, the family moved from Regina in December 2011 and Ethan was admitted to the children's cancer ward at the IWK in Halifax.

After many months of treatments and tests, things were starting to look up and Ethan was able to fight back enough to push his cancer into remission. But unfortunately, in December 2012, the cancer that was lying dormant and in hiding became active again and stronger than ever. After many different types and tries of strong chemo therapy, a team of doctors and specialists throughout Canada and the world notified the family that a bone marrow transplant would be necessary in a last hope of winning this battle.

Fortunately, they were able to get his blood levels to a point that made this procedure possible and by some stroke of luck, actually a 1 in a million chance, his mother Amanda came up as a positive match for a donor. On July 4th, 2013, while at the Children's sick hospital in Toronto, Ethan underwent bone marrow replacement procedure with Amanda as his donor. Everything with the procedure went well and as planned. After a month he is a little trooper and fighting like a Hero but there is still a painful road ahead.

Although the past 2 years have been extremely hard on family and friends, Ethan has managed to stay strong and continues to amaze us all with his cheerful yet shy attitude. He continues to shine through despite all the extreme circumstances and challenges that have been put in front of him.
