Ethan James Williams Memorial Fund

Six months ago, on December 7th 2020 our families lives got turned upside down when we lost our gorgeous Son and brother Ethan James Williams, just 22 years old. Ethan was away from home in Liverpool Uni at the time, he died suddenly in the gym, which later turned out to be a blood clot on his lung. Thankfully his friends Joe and Alex where there with him, and a big thanks do the staff at JD’s Gym for doing all they could so quickly.

Anyone that knew Ethan, knew how infectious his outgoing personality, laughter and large heart was, he cared for everyone he held dear and would be there for anybody at any time of day. He was a natural comedian, adored by all that knew him, the gel that held so many together.

The love Ethan had for his parents David and Miriam was incredible and equally matched back by them, so much so that living each day without him has been the hardest challenge any parent ever has to face, an ocean of tears doesn’t even come near.

Due to Covid, Ethan didn’t get the funeral he deserved, however, we were able to celebrate his 23rd birthday in April, with over 20 of us hiking up Pen Y Fan to drink brandy and prosecco at the top, followed by memory lanterns let off later at Lladaff Fields, we all wrote messages to send up to heaven for Ethan, I was amazed by how many friends came to celebrate his birthday, showing the pure love and loss we all feel for such an amazing person, gone far too soon.

Ethan would want his memory to live on, he would probably prefer us all to take up graffiti, a passion of his since a young child, but as a family we would like to do a ‘go fund me’ page for a memorial bench in Llandaff Fields for his friends to go and sit on and remember him, a place where is special for us all, Miriam would also like a tree to be planted in Victoria Park opposite his home, in Cardiff - a new life to grow.

Along with these special memory places for friends and family, Ethan, like many young adults, suffered with anxiety, he also in recent years lost several of his friends to suicide. Ethan would always be desperate to take people under his wing and help them through dark stages of their lives, and without Ethan here to do that now, we would like to raise money for Young Minds. A charity that not only helps young people but parents too, I know Ethan would be proud for us all to do everything we can to help young minds and there to be more support there, especially in these challenging times.
