<div>“Et Avec Ça, Il Faut Porter Tête Haute” sont les derniers mots que ma grand-mère Sara a écrit en 1942, alors qu'elle était déportée à Auschwitz. Au cours de la dernière décennie, Francine, la fille de Sara, Françoise et Claude, également enfants de déportés résistants, sont intervenus dans les classes de Collèges et Lycées, où ils ont livré un témoignage émouvant et historiquement précieux sur la Déportation et la Résistance de leurs familles pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Nous avons préservé ce témoignage dans ce film documentaire qui, malheureusement, reste aussi universel et pertinent aujourd'hui qu'il ne l'a jamais été.

<div><em> “And Yet, We Must Hold Our Head High” are the last words that my grandmother Sara Szalka, wrote in 1942, while she was being deported to Auschwitz. For the last decade, Sara's daughter Francine, Francoise, and Claude, also children of deportees, have been speaking at live highschool assemblies, where they shared moving, and historically important testimony about the Deportation and Resistance of their families during World War II. A testimony that, unfortunately, remains as universally relevant today as it ever was.</em>
</div>

<div>Quand la Guerre éclate, Françoise a 3 ans. Elle est fille et petite-fille de déportés politiques et Juifs de France dans les camps de Neuengamme, Sobibor et Auschwitz. Mais alors que la Guerre est sur le point de se terminer, son père est assassiné en mai 1945 sur le Cap Arcona, un navire de croisière amarré dans la Baie de Lübeck, sur lequel les nazis avaient embarqué de nombreux déportés. Le paquebot est coulé par la Royal Air Force. Il y eut 7000 morts.

<div><em> Françoise was only 3 years old when World War II began. Her father and grandfather, French Jews and political prisoners, were deported to the camps of Neuengamme, Sobibor and Auschwitz. in May 1945, just as the war was about to end, her father was murdered on the Cap Arcona, a cruise ship moored in the Bay of Lübeck, on which the Nazis had packed with deportees. The ship was sunk by the Royal Air Force. There were 7,000 deaths.</em>

<div>Quand la Guerre éclate, Claude est âgé de 9 ans. Son père, sous couvert de ses fonctions de haut fonctionnaire de Police de l'Etat de Vichy, s'engage immédiatement dans la Résistance. Il sauve de nombreuses vies et transmet d’importantes informations aux Forces Françaises Libres de Londres, mais il est dénoncé en Janvier 1944. Il survit à plus d'un an de déportation dans les camps de Mauthausen, Melk et Ebensee, dans lesquels l’espérance de vie n’était que de trois mois, puis retrouve Claude et sa famille plusieurs semaines après la Libération.

<div><em> Claude was 9 years old when the war broke out. His father, under the cover of his functions as a senior police commissioner of the Vichy State, immediately joined the Resistance, saved many lives and communicated critical information to the Free French Forces in London. In 1944, he was turned in, and deported to the camps of Mauthausen, Melk and Ebensee. Average life expectancy for detainees in those camps was only three months, but he managed to survive over a year, and was eventually reunited with Claude and his family in the aftermath of the war.</em>

<div>Quand la Guerre éclate, Francine a 6 ans. Elle est une Enfant Cachée, fille de résistants et déportés Juifs de France dans les camps de Auschwitz, Birkenau et Buchenwald. Après l’arrestation de sa mère, embarquée dans la Rafle du Vel’ d’Hiv’ en Juillet 1942, Francine et sa fratrie échappent à la traque des nazis grâce à Madame Yvette, une jeune antillaise travaillant aux côtés de son père qui accueille, puis cache les quatre enfants au péril de sa vie. Au terme de la Guerre et d'une année d'errance avec sa fratrie dans divers instituts d'accueil, Francine retrouve son père, ainsi que Mme Yvette, son amie pour la vie. En 2002, Francine fait distinguer Madame Yvette du titre de Juste Parmi Les Nations.

<div><em> Francine was 6 years old at the start of the war. She was a Hidden Child, daughter of French Jewish resistance fighters who were deported to the camps of Auschwitz, Birkenau and Buchenwald. Francine and her siblings escaped the Nazi hunt thanks to Madame Yvette, a young West Indies woman who had worked with Francine's father before the war, and who rescued and hid the four children at the risk of her own life. After the war ended, and after a year of wandering with her siblings in various institutions, Francine found her father, as well as Madame Yvette, her friend for life. In 2002, Francine had Madame Yvette awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations.</em>
