Vision of Beit MAROM Uganda

 

To provide a long term home for Jewish activities and celebrations for Abayudaya university students and young adults living in Kampala and all Jewish families staying in the capital who wish to have a well organized services in Uganda.

During the years that Abayudaya youth live with their families, they participate in Shabbat and holiday celebrations, as well as Torah study, with their families and community.   In order to address this period of isolation from Judaism during the years at university, MAROM Uganda was established in Kampala in 2010. The community is led by an active board of young adults, MAROM Uganda offers the Abayudaya university students the opportunity to come together for Shabbat and holidays, reading from Torah, Torah study and a time to practice tradition and mingle with other Jews who are living in the Kampala area. MAROM Uganda is the only organization in Kampala that offers Jewish activities and prayer services.

Goals and Objectives of Beit MAROM Uganda

1)      To create a permanent home and comfortable atmosphere for prayer, study, discussions, learning and socializing together while living in Kampala.

2)      To encourage young Abayudaya adults to participate actively in religious observance and practice while they are away from their home communities.

3)      To strengthen the Abayudaya, Jewish and Zionist identity of the students and young adults while living in Kampala.

4)      To provide a place to meet and connect with other Jewish students and young adults from around the world who are also living in Kampala.

5)      To develop young Jewish leadership in the MAROM community and for the Abayudaya community.

6)     To engage in outreach to involve more Jews in communal Jewish life in Kampala.
