Essential Care Fundraiser

Donation protected

ESSENTIAL CARE FUND - ENDS JUNE 9TH!

Thanks to the generous support of nearly 600 donors, we raised just over $70,000 to give to 13 childcare facilities in Westchester County, New York (You can watch the live awardee announcement during our "Through the Night" Red Carpet hosted by Hill Harper), but we want to give more! Our new goal is to raise an additional $20,000 to give $5000 each to a childcare facility or organization in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco where we are opened theatrically (online) and for our broadcast on PBS May 10th (the day after Mother's Day). We're also donating a percentage of our theatrical ticket sales to the fund. Much like our first round, the more we raise, the more we can give!!

If you'd prefer to contribute directly to a fiscal sponsor for large donations ($5000+), please contact us at [email redacted] to arrange.

“We are staying open until they shut us down because our parents need us. It is a little bit scary because every person who walks in could bring in COVID-19.”                      ~Deloris "Nunu" Hogan, Daycare Center Founder

WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING?

Essential workers need support.
They need quality childcare. They deserve to come home to a safe place, be able to pay their bills, and put food on the table. Home based daycare centers, like the one that Deloris "Nunu" and Patrick Hogan run, have long been one of few social safety nets for working families, especially single mothers. But with COVID-19 over 60 percent of licensed childcare providers have already closed  and stimulus packages have not accounted for the true scope of what’s needed . The providers that haven’t closed struggle to keep the doors open, pay their employees, and support essential workers facing all sorts of threats: risking contracting COVID-19 to housing and food insecurity.  This fundraiser is our attempt to go beyond symbolic gestures and enable always essential daycare providers to continue operating.

Our goal is to provide home-based daycare centers with some financial support to continue operating so they can remain open and provide care to children of essential workers. We truly value whatever you can contribute and appreciate you spreading the word about this effort.

HOW WILL WE DISTRIBUTE THE FUNDS?

Funds will be distributed directly to vetted home-based daycare providers or organizations doing work to help improve the daycare system and the lives of single mothers. We deeply believe that the people directly impacted by a problem are the ones best positioned to solve the problem.

The filmmaking team is managing this fundraiser on a volunteer basis and funds will be held and distributed by our fiscal sponsor Firelight Media. The filmmaking team will be receiving money from this fund.

WHO ARE WE?

We are a team of filmmakers, home-based daycare providers, and parents who have come together to raise rapid response funds in the spirit of mutual aid and community support. Loira Limbal(fund organizer) is a New York-based filmmaker and the Director/Producer of Through the Night featuring essential care workers.

Deloris and her husband Patrick are the co-founders of a 24 hour daycare center in New Rochelle, a lifesaver for parents who work multiple jobs and odd hours to make ends meet. They are also the protagonists in the documentary, Through the Night , initially scheduled to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival  in New York City last month. Like film festivals around the world, Tribeca shut down, but the daycare center could not.

Through the Night also follows Marisol who holds down three part-time jobs to support her family including one as a grocery store supplier (a 6 days/week job during the pandemic) and Shanona who works the overnight shift as a pediatric ER nurse.  Deloris and Patrick have for two decades devotedly cared for the children of parents with nowhere else to turn like Marisol and Shanona. They are the nurses, the grocery store workers, the caregivers - who we now call “essential workers.”

If you're interested in contributing directly to the film's impact campaign or to any of the protagonists, please email us at [email redacted].

Follow Through the Night on Facebook , Twitter , and Instagram .

WILL WE KEEP ANY OF THE MONEY?

No, 100% of proceeds will go directly to home based daycare centers or organizations (after fees and taxes).

Please note: This fundraiser was designed by essential caregivers and parents. We encourage donors to trust their vision and expertise. They are on the frontlines not only providing for their own families but taking care of many other families throughout our region. They know best how to direct funds and distribute resources.
