Hello! I present my nephew Luis Guillermo Salazar Rivera (only child) of 6 years of age, he has always been characterized for being a cheerful, dynamic, compassionate, altruistic, loving, intelligent child with an endless of other qualities.
Guille (como le decimos de cariño) llevaba una vida normal hasta el 2 de junio de 2018 en donde acudió en compañía de sus padres al Hospital Roberto Gilbert de la ciudad de Guayaquil (Ecuador), ya que presentaba moretones en sus piernas y brazos, según exámenes de sangre indicaba un bajo nivel en sus plaquetas: 29.000 (cuyo rango normal es de 150.000-450.000), no arrojaba más síntomas, por lo cual le hicieron un examen en la médula ósea; aparentemente para descartar una Leucemia….
Guille (name he goes by in the family) led a normal life until June 2, 2018 where he went with his parents to the Hospital Roberto Gilbert in the city of Guayaquil (Ecuador), as he had bruises on his legs and arms, according to tests blood indicated a low level in his platelets: 29,000 (whose normal range is 150,000-450,000), he did not show any more symptoms, for which he was examined in the bone marrow; apparently to rule out the possibility of Leukemia...
El 6 de junio ingresó a Solca (Sociedad de Lucha Contra el Cáncer).... todo fue tan rápido...... nuevamente le realizaron exámenes y nos dieron la triste noticia donde se confirmaba el diagnóstico: Leucemia de tipo Linfoblástica Aguda (LLA); seguidamente inició el tratamiento de Quimioterapia estándar, con la fase de Inducción, en donde permaneció hospitalizado 41 días… Aparentemente culminó con éxito esa etapa, ya que así lo manifestaban los doctores… Continuó con la siguiente fase: La Consolidación, con quimioterapias de manera ambulatoria; aquello fue una alegría inmensa tenerlo nuevamente a Guille en casa; a su vez implicó un cuidado muy estricto por su condición….
On June 6 he joined Solca (Fight Society Against Cancer), everything went so fast, again he was given exams and they gave us the news where the diagnosis was confirmed: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (LLA); then he started the standard Chemotherapy treatment, with the Induction phase, where he stayed hospitalized for 41 days. Apparently this stage was successfully completed, as the doctors stated. He continued with the next phase: The Consolidation, with chemotherapy on an outpatient basis ; it was an immense joy to have him back to Guille at home; at the same time it implied a very strict care for his condition...
…. Por dichas razones permanecía en casa y solamente salía para los controles de exámenes de sangre y tratamiento. En uno de los chequeos del 30 de julio arrojaron resultados altos en las transaminas (GOT-GPT) y el doctor le recetó un protector hepático….
.... For these reasons he stayed at home and only went out for blood tests and treatment checks. In one of the checks on July 30, it showed high results in transamines (GOT-GPT) and the doctor prescribed a liver protector.
El sábado de 4 agosto sus padres Iliana Rivera y Luis Salazar, se percataron que habían 3 puntitos de sangre en la mascarilla de él, ante lo cual acudieron inmediatamente a Solca por Emergencia para analizar si había bajado las plaquetas y, así fue, tenía apenas 10.000 (lo cual podría ocasionar hemorragias internas o externas), a pesar de hacerle transfusión de plaquetas, al día siguiente bajaron a 5.000…. en esa situación vieron pertinente realizarle ecografía y tomografía en su barriguita porque la tenía muy hinchada, una vez emitidos los resultados.... el doctor indicó que se trataba de una recaída propia de la enfermedad comprometiendo su hígado, intestino y pulmón. Luego permaneció 8 días en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos, estuvo con oxígeno ya que la ascitis (acumulación de líquido) que presentaba le dificultaba respirar. Actualmente Guille se encuentra en Hospitalización Pediátrica para sus debidos controles, pero aún los médicos desconocen el diagnóstico de la afectación que está presentando en el hígado.
Ante todo lo mencionado esperamos que Guille pueda estabilizarse y que a través de las quimioterapias ya no tenga blastos (células inmaduras) en su médula y sangre, para posteriormente gestionar un posible trasplante de médula, en la Clínica de la Universidad de Navarra, España.
Todos estos procesos demandan muchos gastos por solventar..... y un trasplante de médula tiene un costo aproximado de $80.000 (cantidad inalcanzable para nuestros recursos) nuestro mayor anhelo es que la historia de Guille no culmine ahí…. y pueda conseguir su trasplante de ser necesario.
On Saturday, August 4, his parents, Iliana Rivera and Luis Salazar, noticed that there were 3 spots of blood in his mask, before which they immediately went to Solca (Fight Against Cancer Society) by Emergency to analyze if the platelets had gone down and, as it was, had just 10,000 (which could cause internal or external bleeding), despite transfusion of platelets, the next day dropped to 5,000 .... in that situation they saw fit to perform ultrasound and tomography on his tummy because he had very swollen, once the results were issued, the doctor indicated that it was a relapse of the disease involving his liver, intestine and lung. Then he stayed for 8 days in the Intensive Care Unit, he was on oxygen since the ascites (fluid accumulation) he presented made it difficult for him to breathe. Currently Guille is in Pediatric Hospitalization for its proper controls, but even doctors are unaware of the diagnosis of the affectation that is occurring in the liver.
First of all, we hope that Guille can stabilize and through chemotherapy he no longer has blasts (immature cells) in his bone marrow and blood, to later manage a bone marrow transplant at the Clinic of the University of Navarra, Spain.
All these processes demand many expenses to settle…… and a bone marrow transplant has an approximate cost of $ 80,000 (unattainable amount for our resources) our biggest wish is that Guille's story does not end there ....and can get his transplant if necesary.
Han sido meses muy duros para todos, en especial ahora con la situación crítica en la que se encuentra nuestro guerrero…. aferrándonos a la oración y al Amor de Dios que sabemos puede obrar cosas maravillosas e imposibles.
Te agradezco de todo corazón haber leído esta historia, porque haces que la luz de esperanza para Guille se mantenga encendida con tus oracionesy tu granito de arena para poder llegar a la meta.... significa mucho para Guille. Y a pesar de la adversidad, como familia y amigos creemos firmemente que:
“DIOS ES BUENO TODO EL TIEMPO, TODO EL TIEMPO DIOS ES BUENO”.
