Esme sponsored swim

Our wonderful 3 year old Isla suffers from a condition called “Blue Breath Syndrome” where breathe holding occurs when crying as a result of injury or pain. This is a common syndrome in young children and the majority of children snap out of the breath holding spell quickly, however Isla doesn’t and most of her breath holding spells result in Seizure.

On Tuesday 7th September 2021 Isla bumped her elbow whilst walking past a door frame and this caused a breath holding episode. Unfortunately as a family we were unable to cause distraction to break the breath holding episode and Isla ended up having a seizure.

Isla seizure on this day lasted for 7 minutes. Followed by a 30 second period where she wasn’t breathing at all. Isla had an infection in her body which made her seizure a lot worse than we would normally experience.

We were fortunate enough to receive care from an NHS first responder, ambulance crews and Magpas, who acted so swiftly and calmly to give Isla the very best care.

Isla has made a fantastic recovery and her big sister Esme has decided to do a sponsored swim to raise money for the Air Ambulance that came to her sisters aid when we were in need.
