Merry-go-round opened its doors in April 2012, with the aim of supporting local families. We wanted to create a welcoming space where families could source high quality pre-used baby and children's goods that wouldn't cost the earth. We wanted to create a community hub where families could come together. And we wanted to provide free packs of essential items to families who needed a little extra help.
In the seven years since we opened, we have been overwhelmed with the response from the community and we just cannot believe how quickly we have grown!
With your help, we have:
*Re-homed over 130,000 items to over 40,000 Glasgow families. That's 42 tonnes of stuff that has had a new lease of life, and 42 tonnes of stuff that has not been bought new!
*Created 8 jobs
*Supported a further 10 people into work with valuable experience and training
*Created opportunities for over 50 volunteers
*Supplied free packs of essential items to over 1500 families in need
*Hosted over 1500 events
*Brought 41,000 of you together to create valuable community support networks
Phew! We are so proud of our brilliant team and our amazing community.
As many of you know our little - but perfectly formed - shop is just too small, but an amazing opportunity has arisen and we are going to expand into the unit next door!
We are beyond excited and have drawn up amazing plans that WITH YOUR HELP will allow us to:
*Create a beautiful shop space that will be 75% bigger
which, with the right layout, will allow us to showcase 90% MORE items to better meet your needs. More sleepsuits anyone?
*Grow our currently teensy events space to three times the size and open up a whole new world of possibilities for our events programme
*Open the events space for evening hire for the community
*Open 7 days a week
*Create additional jobs and increase hours for existing staff
We are looking to raise £9,000 to help with the expansion. This will allow us to refurbish the unit, kit out the shop and create a new retail assistant position to allow us open 7 days a week.
