Support Guatemalan School Children

Escuela Casería Mano de León is a public rural school serving children from 5 to 15 years of age in Jocotenango, Sacatepequez, Guatemala.
Dedicated lead teachers Diego Ixcamey and Mónica Paredes face many challenges as they work to support their students and community members in this rural town.
The school lacks access to drinkable water and electricity, and many of the children suffer from malnutrition which makes it difficult for them to learn.
In Guatemala, only 40% of students finish the 6th grade, because for many it becomes difficult to afford the cost of transportation out of their village to locations where secondary school is offered. They are also often unable to keep up on payments for school supplies and equipment.
These teachers are often working to fundraise and network for their students who are dreaming of continuing on in their education, but they could use our help!

Many of the projects Diego and Mónica aspire to fund include:
1)Providing more educational staff at the school.
(The average primary teacher in Guatemala makes $380 a month)
2)Providing school children with nourishing breakfast and snack during the school day.
(The Guatemalan government only provides rural schools with Q2.50 or $0.34 per child per day for their daily snack)
3)Health programs and access to a clinic. ($25 can pay for up to 5 visits to a doctor for a student or community member)
Keeping the school stocked with hygienic products
4)Offering Art and Sport Programs ($50 can pay for arts and sports programs for one child for one year)
5) Building maitenance
6) Scholarship Fund (Money that can go towards their graduating 6th graders who wish to pursue Secondary School)
