Boys giving back in Belize

We want our young men to be great! Part of being great is giving back to the greater community. I am a teacher of East Side Community High School a Title I school in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. In May, a few teachers and I are taking 15 Young men of color from our NYC public school to the Dominican Republic to participate in a weeklong service-learning project. These young men will have both the opportunity to travel abroad as well as give back to a community. They will be providing meals, reading, playing and teaching kids English at a small village outside of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. Some of the children are displaced Hatians and Domincan children who are living in poverty stricken villages. We feel that it is an important part of a young man's life to be able to travel and to give back. We strive to educate these young men and make them well rounded individuals that will go into the world knowing what it means to be a part of a larger community.
With your kind donation, we will be able to make this trip happen for these young men. They will be participating in numerous fundraising events as well as obtaining jobs to be able to pay for this invaluable experience. Unfortunately, the cost of the trip is out of reach for so many of our boys and we want to make sure that they do not miss out on this opportunity because they do not have access to the amount of funds required.
