**Synopsis**
Theodore, born in post-war Sri Lanka grows up in a household filled with violence. However he has a plan to escape not only the beatings of his father, but a nation ready to erupt into civil war.
Upon arriving in Melbourne, he must face life as an immigrant in a nation desperate to cling to its white heritage. Whilst he no longer faces the threat of riots, he still finds himself living in fear.
Anthony is young man forced to grow up before his time. Having spent most of his life caring for his disabled father, he finds himself trying to escape his past through drug and alcohol abuse. As he comes to terms with his own mental health he must find the strength to survive for the sake of his own son.
Escaping Shadows tells the story of two men fighting to break the patriarchal cycles they were born into and discovering what it means to be a modern man. Exploring themes of domestic violence, mental health and social justice, this is a story that looks deeply at the human condition and asks the question: “how far can a man be pushed until he snaps?

Escaping Shadows is a project very close to my heart; as someone who has battled with mental health issues for over ten years now, this story is an opportunity to share that experience with the world in hope to help people better understand what this illness feels like. In Australia more than 3,000 people choose to end their life each year; suicide is an often misunderstood issue that desperately calls for attention. It is a complex subject, one in which I feel I can shed some light on through my own personal experience.
Your support will afford me the opportunity to work on this project full time without distraction with the goal of securing publishing by the end of the year. Any and all donations will not only be truly appreciated but will allow me to fulfil my dream of publishing this story.
