ESBN D.C. YOUTH EXPERIENCE

Equality Should Be Normal (ESBN) needs your help to bring scholars from at-risk communities from Chicago to the August 28th, 2020 Commitment March. This march is being organized by the National Action Network (NAN), and will be led by the family of George Floyd.

SUMMARY

Amidst Covid-19, our society is facing mounting challenges that we must adjust to. One challenge is continuing to contribute to the development of our youth. Education and life experiences are two of the most powerful tools we have, and ESBN wants to do our part in assisting black communities with those pieces. On August 28th, NAN is organizing The Commitment March convened by Rev. Al Sharpton & Martin Luther King III. This will be a historical and life changing event, and ESBN would like to afford a group of Chicago youth from underprivileged communities the opportunity to participate. We have also included social distance friendly visits to five Historically Black Colleges (HBCUs): Howard, Hampton, Norfolk St, Virginia Union and Morgan St., plus other team building activities to show them a holistic perspective of the broader opportunities available to them beyond their immediate neighborhoods who care about them.

ESBN needs your assistance to help fund this experience. Sponsorship of approximately $600 per scholar includes roundtrip airfare, accommodations, a meal stipend, ground transportation, plus activity costs. Members of our Volunteer Board are also lending their time to support each of the youths on-site. If you are not able to sponsor a scholar, donations of any amount are welcomed and appreciated.

COVID-19 PROTECTION PARAMETERS

To keep the experience attendees and volunteers safe, ESBN will be testing the group 14 days prior to departure, mandating quarantine, then doing an instant test the day of departure. Should an attendee test positive, they will no longer attend the experience. This serves as a measure for protection, plus encourages the cohort to be responsible during this ever changing climate.
