<div>No dia 18 de Outubro, <a href="https://ra.co/news/81515" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a polícia invadiu o Planeta Manas</a>, o espaço queer DIY de uma associação cultural sem fins lucrativos em Lisboa, impedindo um evento musical e performativo e filmagens dum documentário da produtora Terratreme, um projecto apoiado por fundos públicos.

<div>Entraram à força na nossa sede associativa dezenas de agentes duma equipa de intervenção rápida, armados e encapuçados, alegando tratar-se duma inspeção de rotina. Sem mandato ou notificação formal, fizeram buscas e revistaram coercivamente todas as pessoas presentes, impediram a festa de continuar e ordenaram a saída das pessoas associadas — sem motivo válido. Este tipo de comportamento repressivo por parte das forças de segurança é inaceitável — representa um ataque direto à liberdade de expressão artística que defendemos e pela qual lutamos todos os dias.

<div>O Planeta Manas é a sede duma associação cultural sem fins lucrativos. Este projeto, horizontal e ao serviço da comunidade artística mais marginalizada, sobrevive financeiramente de mês a mês. Às vezes de semana a semana. Às vezes nem isso — não foram poucas as vezes em que tivemos que pedir fundos emprestados a amigues para podermos abastecer o nosso bar ou para pagar a renda ao senhorio.

<div>Para sermos transparentes, a sobrevivência do Planeta Manas não está garantida — estamos há meses a operar com prejuízos. Os membros da equipa da associação tentam colmatar isso com fundos próprios e muito trabalho voluntário. Ao contrário de muitos espaços da cidade, não temos investidores nem fundos de investimento estrangeiro. Somos artistas precárixs, com liquidez pessoal também quase nula. A nossa pesada lista de tarefas operacionais é feita por nós, em voluntariado. O grupo de artistas por detrás do projecto nunca receberam fee por um performance ou DJ set no Planeta Manas. O nosso sonho? Conseguir oferecer-vos um espaço com melhores condições: melhor som, mais conforto, mais medidas de segurança. Temos conseguido muitas melhorias aos poucos com muito trabalho e amor mas precisamos de ajuda.

<div>A invasão violenta da polícia veio dificultar ainda mais as coisas - e não é a primeira vez que acontece e nos forçam a fechar o espaço. Cada um dos nossos eventos é necessário para pagarmos a renda, as contas, as licenças, o stock, e outros custos de programação. A interrupção do evento de 18 de outubro roubou-nos uma parte muito relevante do nosso orçamento mensal de sobrevivência. Muitas pessoas perceberam isso e contactaram-nos disponíveis para ajudar. Por isso, decidimos aceitar e e criar esta campanha de angariação de fundos, aceitando a ajuda de quem tiver essa possibilidade e queira apoiar-nos neste momento difícil.

<div>Afinal de contas, o Planeta Manas é um espaço comunitário DYI e sempre acreditámos na ajuda mútua. Para perceberem o objetivo da campanha, aqui ficam os custos que não conseguimos cobrir naquele dia devido à intervenção da polícia no dia 18 de outubro:

<div>On 18 October, <a href="https://ra.co/news/81515" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the police raided Planeta Manas</a>, a DIY queer space in Lisbon, preventing a musical and performance event and the filming of a documentary produced by the cultural institution Terratreme with public funding.

<div>Dozens of agents from a rapid intervention team entered our organisation by force, armed and hooded, claiming to be carrying out a routine inspection. Without a warrant or formal notification, they coercively searched all the people present, prevented the party from continuing and ordered the members to leave - for no good reason. This kind of repressive behaviour on the part of the security forces is unacceptable - it represents a direct attack on the freedom of artistic expression that we defend and fight for every day.

<div>Planeta Manas is the headquarters of a non-profit cultural association. This project, which is horizontal and serves the most marginalised artistic community, survives financially from month to month. Sometimes from week to week. Sometimes not at all - there have been many times when we've had to borrow funds from friends in order to stock our bar or pay the rent to the landlord.

<div>To be transparent, Planeta Manas' survival is not guaranteed - we've been operating at a loss for months. The members of the association's team try to make up for this with their own funds and a lot of voluntary work. Our heavy list of operational tasks is done by us on a voluntary basis. The resident artists have never received a fee for a DJ set or performance at Planeta Manas. Our dream? To be able to offer you a venue with better conditions: better sound, more comfort, more security measures. We've achieved many improvements little by little with a lot of labour of love, but we need help.

<div>The violent police raid has made things even more difficult and it's not the first time they forced us to close for the night. Each of our events is necessary for us to pay the rent, the bills, the licences, the stock, programming costs. The interruption of the 18 October event robbed us of a very significant part of our monthly survival budget. Many people realised this and contacted us willing to help. That's why we've decided to accept and create this fundraising campaign, accepting help from anyone who can and wants to support us at this difficult time.

<div>After all, Planeta Manas is a DIY community space and we have always believed in mutual aid. To help you understand the aim of the campaign, here are the costs we were unable to cover due to the police intervention on 18 October:
