Stoves for Guatemala

Tax deductible
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in this cause in Central America.  As an adoptive mother of a child from El Salvador, Central America holds a very special place in my heart.  I was selected by my company to participate in changing the lives of family's in Guatemala by building safe cooking and safe drinking systems in their homes.

This September, AMN (American Medical Nursing - my current employer) embarks on our yearly medical mission trip to Guatemala to help install stoves (like in the picture above) and water filters in several Guatemalan homes, for families who are very much in need.  While we are spoiled here in the states and have a stove in our homes to cook our fancy meals, these families have nothing but dirt, brick and wood (on the floors of their homes) to cook meals for their children.  Open fire, in a small home like this picture shows, creates substantial health issues on their entire family and puts a strain on their respiratory systems, as they are breathing in harmful smoke/fumes from the fires.

Luckily, AMN and the partnership with the International Esperanza Project, have made it a mission to help mitigate some of these health issues Guatemalan families are experiencing by installing stoves in the homes of qualifying families.  The stove helps the family cook more efficiently, much cleaner and healthier meals for their families.  And the overwhelming gratitude they show us after a stove is built makes us realize what a difference/impact we are having on their lives.

As you can imagine, these stoves come at a cost.  With simply $250, a family is provided a stove.  Our goal is to fundraise for this year’s trip, and any amount of donation would be helpful in achieving my goal of helping fund stoves (from MedPartners).

I also am placing a large cardboard box near the front door at our office to collect school supplies.  While we are in Guatemala we will be visiting a local school to deliver school supplies.  If you would like to contribute in that way it would be greately appreciated!!!

Thanks Family & Friends AND my MedPartners Family :)

If you would like to give $2, that’s great!  If you would like to give $5, that’s great!  And if you would like to sponsor an entire stove at $250, that’s great!  Any donation is greatly appreciated!
