We are Eros and April. We were drawn together by magic and community. Then we unexpectedly brought a magical baby into the world and shared him through open adoption. We've been together for five extremely intense years as partners and birth parents.
Two years ago we gave up everything to relocate from Humboldt, CA to Portland, OR, to be close to our birth son. We are building a new life, healing and growing together, and we want to celebrate our incredible love and commitment with our family and friends.
We are asking our community for help to create the small and simple wedding that we were planning in Humboldt in August before we lost a source of income recently (we were both working two part-time jobs, now April is working one). We were going to cancel and then we thought about what we've learned from Amanda Palmer's Art of Asking and we think crowdfunding our wedding could be an amazing community adventure. ,We are extremely independent people who have always had to take care of ourselves and others, so we have a hard time asking for help. But we know we are not alone and that there is an invisible net of love that holds us from afar. We're making ourselves vulnerable to trust it and see what happens.
It isn't a fancy event we're looking for, it's a small community gathering around a fire. It's words that speak our truth and our promise witnessed by loved ones. It's Humboldt because that's where our tribe is and where we fell in love. It's bbq and beer. It's stainless steel rings. It's a nice pair of boots for Eros (that he needs anyway) and a pretty dress for April (that she'll want to wear again). It's a plane ticket for April's son from wherever he lands this summer. It's celebration and connection with a little beauty thrown in.
We already have a location, a cake, and flowers contributed. Eros is a dj so we'll have music covered. What we need are rings, outfits, a celebrant, food and drink for a reception, a plane ticket for April's son, and travel for us between Humboldt and Portland. We are also hoping for private lodging while in Humboldt and a simple honeymoon on the coast of Oregon after (rental car and air-bnb). We have the vacation time to cover our time off work.
We are open to contributions other than monetary.
We are open to every imaginable idea of how to make our wedding fun, beautiful, artful, generous, and community oriented.
Every one local that we are connected to through one degree of separation who contributes is welcome to attend and experience an event that is born from the love of everyone involved.
Everyone who contributes will receive some kind of artful blessing from April to commemorate your participation after the wedding.
The wedding is August 13th. The sooner we receive funds the easier it will be to plan, but we're also up for the adventure of whatever unfolds over the next two months.
