Ernestine Muanya

Ernestine (Ernie) Muanya was involved in a serious car accident leaving work at MD Anderson Cancer center in March. She has come a long way in her recovery after suffering from a ruptured spleen, lacerated liver, broken arm, leg, sternum, and multiple ribs. With the help of several months of physical therapy and inspiring determination she is now able to walk around with the assistance of a walker, but she is still not able to bear weight on her right leg. She is also continuing therapy to gain function in her fingers, hand and right arm. It is safe to say that it will be a long journey ahead with many more appointments and continued medical expenses to come.

MD Anderson is at the end of what they are able to compensate her for this extended medical leave of absence. Her husband has taken as much time as he can away from his job to be a primary caregiver to Ernie and their three beautiful children, Kayce (8), Maliyah (6), and Bethel (4). The kids also just went back to school and are in need of school supplies, uniforms, and other necessities. The strain caused by this injury is evident in their day to day life.

Ernie is the most exceptional person and nurse. She loves and cares so deeply for every patient and their families. It was not uncommon to see her rub lotion on patients or give them back and foot massages if it meant bringing them any small amount of comfort or relief. She has precepted and taught the oncoming nurses how to be the best in their fields. This brave woman is also kind, patient, supportive, energetic, bubbly, outgoing, and has never met a stranger in her life. It is apparent how loved she is by her patients, admired by her peers, and cherished by her family and friends.

I cannot express enough how amazing this woman is and how she is the most deserving of any amount you are able to contribute towards their mounting medical and home expenses.
