Erma's Fight

For all of her life Erma has been commited to helping people. She's been a nurse for over 35 years, a loving mother, loyal friend, and trusted employee. If you ever came to her house hungry, she fed you. If you ever needed somewhere to stay for the night, she gave you a bed. If you ever needed someone to talk to, she was there waiting with a cold beer. And now she needs some help.

 Last week Erma had a full body PET scan and needle biopsy of the mass in her right lung. Today she met with her oncologist to go over the results and discuss a treatment plan. She has stage IV adenocarcinoma of the lung which has metastasized to her bones and lymph nodes. As of now this type and stage of cancer is not considered curable. With successful treatment the tumors can be shrunk and prolong her life. She will begin chemo next Wednesday. Each round of chemo will be every three weeks for a total of 3 times. After the last treatment she will have a chest x-ray to determine if the masses are shrinking and then determine the next steps. 

Even with insurance, cancer treatment is pricey. The days of work missed, driving back and forth to treatments, and the many medications that are going to be needed are just a few of the costs that are going to add up. The last thing Erma needs to be worrying about right now is money. She needs to be able to focus all of her energy on keeping herself healthy. 

Erma has always been a proud, strong-willed, independent woman. Therefore, I didn't even ask her permission about startng this page. I knew what the answer would be.
