Erin's Broke...n Ankle Fund
Donation protected
Hello there! I recently broke my ankle while trying to get a dog out of traffic! Stupid, I know. But the good news is, the dog is safe!
I broke my left ankle in 3 places when I stepped in a deep, Erin-foot sized hole on the grassy hill of an on-ramp here in the city. I fell to ground and contemplated all life decisions that had led me to this point. While screaming at the ground on all fours, a kind man stopped and called an ambulance for me and tried to get me to calm down. I made a firefighter scream when they tried to lift me up off of the ground and my ankle when *crunch*. I made it to the hospital with the help of a lovely group of EMTs who played my favorite music and told me about their pets to get me to calm down. I sobbed in the ER room up until they gave me ketamine and I went to Mars! Imagine! Breaking bones AND space travel, all in one day?!
My surgeon congratulated me on breaking my ankle so thoroughly. The splint the ER put me in ended up giving me gnarly ulcers so we couldn't do surgery right away and I had to have an external cage put on my ankle. It looked like head-gear... but on my ankle.
Once my skin had healed enough, they removed the external cage and inserted metal plates and screws into my ankle. They also had to repair lots of ligaments that I had just decimated in the break.
I am now comfy cozy at home with my two cats and loving partner. I've gotten pretty good at using my walker to hop around and even have a wheelchair for my rare public outings.
I have not been able to work for 2 months. Life expenses keep coming and now on top of that, very large medical bills.
If you could help me tackle my medical bills and everyday life expenses for these past two months I have been unable to work, it would mean so much to me. I should be released to work within a month, but even then I will need to miss work regularly for physical therapy.
Its been a weird way to enter into a new year, but I am taking it a day at a time. Thank you so much!
