Hi! My name is Erin and I'm a junior in high school in New Orleans, LA. In the summer of 2018, I would love the opportunity to travel abroad for the very first time as a volunteer in Ghana! I'll be a student volunteer with an international organization called Cross Cultural Solutions. Here's the link to the program - I'm hoping to stay 3-4 weeks so I can really get to immerse myself as much as possible and have some positive impact. I don't know exactly what I want to do in life but I do know I want to make a difference. I'm sooooo excited about the possibility of teaching little kids in Ghana. I know I'll be learning just as much from them as well!
Going to Ghana would be a wonderful experience, an opportunity to deepen my cultural understanding. As a Global Education Volunteer I will be teaching young kids in primary school english, math and hopefully some science- I Love Experiments with little kids!!! But I want to do more than just teach- I want to exchange ideas. School is really a marketplace of ideas which ultimately leads to deeper understanding nd connection. I have a few tricks up my sleeve so I hope I can bring some exciting, different, and fun techniques to our class. I hope I get a chance to explore the many facets and dimensions that make up Ghana's culture and history. It would mean the world to me if I were able to seize this opportunity, and I promise to make every minute on the trip count, to soak everything up like a sponge!
Additionally, as a young African-American woman, I would welcome the opportunity to go back to the continent of my ancestors, to explore my roots and to learn more about my own identity.
The Cross Cultural Solutions program is around $4,000-$5,000 plus another $1,800-$2,200 for travel; so a total of about $7,000.... I know, I know not a cheap proposition, but I think it's worth it.
So if you have a few dollars to spare, I would truly appreciate it if you could help me fund the trip! The money you donate will go directly to pay for this trip-of-a-lifetime. The fundraiser goes until May 30, 2018, when I will purchase the trip.
