I am willing to bet that cancer has impacted every person that reads this. Unfortunately, my family is all too familiar with this horrible disease. We have seen it take the life of our father, as well as the lives of multiple aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Battles against cancer can be won, but seldom without taking a physical, emotional, and financial toll. With so much else to focus on, let's help ensure that Erin does not have to worry about the financial aspect.
Erin was diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer in 2013. The cancer led to the removal of her thyroid and many follow up visits to ensure the cancer was not coming back. In May of 2016, lab results showed that the cancer was back and had spread to her trachea and esophagus. It was at that time her doctor decided it was in her best interest to continue treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, as they were more familiar with the required surgery and would give her the best chance at a successful fight. Unfortunately, MD Anderson is also out of network for her insurance.
Travel expenses and out-of-pocket medical costs are in the tens of thousands.
Erin is the loving mother of two beautiful little girls. Out of all of the difficulties associated with this surgery, she said spending time away from the girls has been one of the hardest. She is a caring sister and friend, and would donate her last dollar if a loved one was ever hit with this unfortunate situation.
We are in the process of putting together raffle prizes. In addition to donating to a great cause, you will receive one entry into the drawing for every $20 donated.
