Erik Akers’ Heart

Erik Akers had a heart attack. One chamber of Erik’s big, beautiful, compassionate heart was, for a brief eternity, completely blocked. Thankfully, he was in Minnesota. Thankfully, dear friends got him to the hospital quickly. Thankfully, it was one of the best heart hospitals in the country. Thankfully, they saved his life, saved his HEART!
But, Erik has no insurance. We don’t yet know what that wonderful life saving week long hospital stay will cost. We don’t qualify for their charity programs as we are not Minnesota residents. We are already financially down several months of work due to Erik’s father passing away, and this may extend that for a few months more. Aside from just the hospital bills, we’ve already spent $430 on a plane ticket for me (Adriyel, his loving partner) to fly to be with him, and will spend an additional $475 on lodging when we return next week for follow up testing, not to mention the travel expense in gas etc. to drive up from Kentucky. And then there are new medications, on top of the insulin and other supplies already needed to manage his type 1 diabetes...
I am beyond grateful to those who have helped us thus far, with bringing food and clean clothes to us in the hospital, caring for Erik until I could arrive, paying for our hotel stay after leaving the hospital; we truly could not have done this without you. We are filing with RESCU also to assist with the hospital bills. I HATE asking for financial help from friends who I know have their own burdens to bear. But I am asking now, if it is within your means and desires to help us, we would be forever grateful.
