Erik's memorial donation
This fundraiser is in memory of Erik Parkinson, who passed away after a decades-long struggle with schizophrenia and addiction. We never lost hope for Erik, that he’d find his way to health or that someone would be able to reach him. He was a brilliant and kind person, and we are deeply saddened by his loss. This week, through the tremendous darkness, we’ve seen a glimmer of hope. People have reached out – some friends, some strangers – to tell of their relationships with Erik. Where the government let him down, the community lifted him up.
Saskatoon lacks services for people living with mental illness and addictions in Saskatoon, and this was apparent throughout Erik’s life. These services are underfunded, and organizations like AIDS Saskatoon do not receive sufficient provincial support. AIDS Saskatoon is in the process of opening a safe consumption site, despite the announcement that the provincial government will not fully support this venture.
Please join us in in raising funds for AIDS Saskatoon to support the safe consumption site and community programs run by this charity.
This GoFundMe is run by Rachel Parkinson, but donations go directly to AIDS Saskatoon.
