Eric's Fight Against Cholangiocarcinoma

Donation protected
To Friends and Family,

Thank you all for your continuous support and prayers. I cannot express how blessed the Augustine family is by our supportive community.

On September 3rd, 2108, Kyson and Karter were born at 31 weeks and had to stay in the NICU for 38 days before they could finally come home. They have been the greatest joy for both Danielle and Eric, and I may be a biased Aunt, but they are the most handsome boys I have ever seen. The boys are 5 months old and are growing more and more each day.

There has been an substantial amount of requests concerning updates on Eric’s health. The tail end of 2018 was filled with many ups and downs. The family wanted to take some time and focus on Eric’s recovery as well as time to digest their next steps as a family.

On October 19th, 2018, Eric underwent surgery in hopes to remove his tumor. Within minutes of the procedure, the surgeon found that the cancer had spread creating lesions on the healthy side of his liver. Therefore, the tumor was not able to be removed.  Eric was closed up immediately and was left with yet another painful incision that went from his sternum down to his belly button.

As you could imagine, it was an absolute nightmare. Eric’s fears of being open and closed came true. Following his failed procedure, the family had to come to terms that Eric’s cancer is incurable. After much prayer and consideration, Eric and Danielle have decided to do whatever it takes to give Eric the best quality of life and most of all time to spend with his friends and family.

Back in mid-November, Eric was able to undergo yet another procedure to internalize his drains with permanent metal stents. Personally, I have never seen Eric so happy as he has received freedom from his drains and can finally hold his sons.

Currently, Eric is participating in a clinical trial in hopes that the medicine can delay the growth and shrink the tumors.  The clinical trial is meant to prolong life for Eric.  It has been taxing on Eric’s health due to the side effects and constant monitoring, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to fight to be with his family. All considering, Eric is truly a man of God and has handled every obstacle with grace. I have not once seen him complain. He is the strongest person I know, and we are all confident that Eric is going to beat the odds and not become a statistic.

As you can imagine, the New Year brings new bills. With the constant doctor’s appointments, scans every two months, testing, and and Karter's stay in the NICU bills are beginning to overwhelm the family. With Danielle returning to work, our hopes and prayers are asking for support for the affordability for an at home nanny for Kyson and Karter.  Our goal is for Eric to spend as much time with the boys as possible.

I know that all of you have been so generous and we are all so thankful! We are asking if you can spread Eric’s story in hopes to help their family and spread awareness of this horrible cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma.

Thank you from the bottom of all our hearts.

Other details about this Go Fund Me campaign:

This campaign was created by Melissa Riegler, (Anaheim Hills, Ca) who is the sister of Danielle Augustine (Eric's wife) and sister in law of Eric Augustine.

Danielle Augustine is the beneficiary for all funds raised for this campaign and is the only person who has the ability to withdraw any of the funds.

All funds will go towards medical expenses for Eric and child care expenses for Kyson and Karter, as Danielle and Eric need much help to facilitate his condition and his time away at the hospital and other appointments.
