Erica was recently diagnosed with Myeloid Sarcoma, a rare and insidious form of cancer. I created this page for my sister because she would never ask for help. As a single mother of two and a dedicated teacher, Erica is usually the one offering assistance to those in need and it is both humbling and frightening to find yourself on the receiving end.
ABOUT THIS DISEASE: Myeloid Sarcoma (MS) is a branch of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an extremely aggressive form of cancer. The treatment regimen that AML requires entails a month-long hospital stay, followed by weekly hospital stays for the subsequent four months with the hope of inducing remission. Remission Induction Therapy and Post-Remission Induction Therapy are the two phases of chemotherapy required to hopefully reach a complete remission. However, there is a strong possibility that a bone marrow transplant will be necessary following chemotherapy. This would require finding a donor who is a match.
WHY YOU SHOULD HELP: As part of her treatment, she will be out of work for a minimum of 6-9 months, but it could potentially be as long as a year and a half! Every donation will be used to fund trips to and from hospitals and cover living expenses, including medical insurance coverage (which she will have to pay out of pocket), while Erica is out of work.
