As many of you know, last week our Dad was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He went into the emergency room at Anna Jaques with a tonsil infection and fevers that wouldn't quit.. thinking it was something as minor as tonsillitis. Following some blood work and a few tests he was taken to Beth Israel in Boston by ambulance. After spending the day there they gave us the awful news that not only was he spending the night but he would be staying there for at least a month for his first chemotherapy session. After that, a possible bone marrow transplant and then months of rest.
As of right now he is responding well to his chemo treatments and staying positive. His white blood cell counts are down but even with things going smoothly, anything could change, so the doctor informed us he will be staying there for at least the next 4 weeks to make sure he doesn't succumb to infection.
Unfortunately, when life throws you curve balls like this one and you aren't prepared, things can be a little difficult. Our dad went into this without any health insurance, short term disability or even savings.
Us three sisters and Susanne have been taking care of the house, the dogs, the bills, etc while making frequent trips into Boston daily.
We all know what these kinds of medical bills will look like but we're really just trying to keep things back home stable for him so he can stay relaxed and not worry.
If you could help out in any way we would really really appreciate it. He's a tough guy and we are gonna get through this but any little bit helps. Thank you all so much for your prayers and positive thoughts! ❤️
