Eric Reed Recovery Project

Donation protected
Our dear friend, Dr. Eric Reed, suffered a serious injury in stopping a violent attack on his hospital co-worker.  On April 28th, while working on the front lines of Covid-19 at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group in La Mesa, California.  Eric described that the attacker, "was going to kill him so I had to do something."

As the assailant turned his aggression towards Eric, he suffered a severe flexion to the neck which broke his C6 left facet and destroyed ligaments.  Eric underwent surgery on Wednesday, April 30th  and now has 3 fused bones in his neck (C5-6-7) with some of his favorite metal, Titanium.  Recovery time will be many months with little or no neck movement.

As many of you know, Eric's passion (and absolute addiction) is riding his bicycles.  In addition to being a kind, generous soul in his professional and family life, he has brought dozens of people together to enjoy the positive energy and comradery of cycling.

We are setting up this gofundme to try to help Eric buy a sweet trainer - the best trainer available (Wahoo Kickr Bike).  We recognize that this is a luxury item and there are excellent cheaper trainers available.  Clearly, this is less about the trainer and more about showing Eric that we all want to support his recovery.  This is about showing Eric that we recognize that he laid himself down in the line of duty to save someone's life and he is now paying a major price for it having sacrificed his own ability to live, work and enjoy his family and passion.  He has helped so many people around him and this is a chance for us to bolster his mental resolve as he faces a long path to physical recovery.

If possible, make a small, medium, or large contribution.  OR simply reach out to Eric and let him know that you care.  We all wish him well as he starts his road to recovery in the wake of this unfortunate, senseless, and major disruption to his life.

Thank you all for the support! Originally, the fund was setup to purchase a Wahoo Kickr Bike to help Eric along on his recovery from his injuries sustained on 4/28/2020.  Shortly after this fund was setup, Wahoo Fitness found out about the story and have decided to graciously donate the Kickr Bike to him. Your generous donations are a tremendous help in supporting the Reed Family with the many unforeseen expenses during Eric's recovery and rehabilitation over the next year.
