Eric Botto Fundraiser: Operafestival di Roma 2019

Hello Everyone!

To those checking in with me, as well as those who may not know me well, I am a 25 year old tenor, currently pursuing a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at University of Mobile, AL. To those seeing this that have not kept up with me for quite some time, it may come as a shock to you that I am pursuing opera as a career. In many ways, music chose me, and I quickly discovered I will be doing this for the rest of my life. I have been singing in operas and studying voice for the last 8 years. Since the beginning, I have made leaps and bounds in my vocal ability, acting, and even seen a boost in my level of charisma. It would be an understatement to say that this field has pushed me, and helped cultivate me into a better human.

To those who are currently connected/involved with me, you may see someone who is fully committed to growing artistically, and building a more established professional future. I hope to share some insight with you, as this hasn’t always been the case. While I knew music was my passion for about the last decade, it wasn’t until the last 1-3 years that I actually saw any possibility of success, or even a level of necessary talent in myself in order to survive this field. I have battled, and danced with demons projecting self-doubt, insecurity, and any other debilitating irrational fear regarding self-worth. It wasn’t until early 2016 when my path was laid before me, and that I found the strength to take those first steps.

I have always been committed to pushing myself, growing my craft, and building the foundation necessary for my future, but it wasn’t until the life-altering incident in 2016 that was my real wake-up call. Without digressing too much, I just want to say that my rock bottom was such an integral part of His plan. This was the first of many milestones in cultivating a more patient, loving, confident, spiritual version of me that you see today.

In regard to the purpose of this hopeful fundraiser, I want to share that I have been offered the role of Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola , as well as Goro in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly this summer with Operafestival di Roma. The program takes place from May 22-June 15, predominantly taking place in the Hamlet of Orvieto, Italy, with some productions occurring in Rome as well. I am so excited to have the opportunity to debut the role of Ramiro for multiple reasons, but most importantly am thrilled to debut my very first Rossini role!

This is a groundbreaking opportunity, since La Cenerentola is one of the most frequently performed operas in the standard operatic repertoire. Not to mention, learning the role Don Ramiro will be quite an undertaking, but this opportunity will further develop my abilities and vocal facility.

Since this is in fact an attempt to help raise funds for this amazing opportunity, I want to clarify that I humbly come to you with hat in hand. The total amount of funds I currently need to raise for the program totals to about $4200, but the absolute minimum I need to raise to offset my own funding totals to about $3000. I recognize that we all are on different financial walks of life, so trust that I don’t expect everyone to be able to donate the same amount, or even possess the ability to donate at all. That being said, a little will go a long way! Whether it is $5, $20, $100, or $10000 (Just kidding), all will combine to help bring me closer to my goal. And if you cannot contribute, PLEASE HELP SHARE THIS FUNDRAISER! Feel free to share on facebook, with your friends, family, church community, etc. Whatever gets this young Italian tenor the chance to debut a leading role in Italy! :)

To those that may be reading this, I just want to thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my story, and to check in with me and my life. I hope this fundraiser finds you in good spirits, and I am happy to answer any questions you may have, or elaborate on the subject. Or if you just want to catch up with me, please reach out! I would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,
Eric Botto
