Katherine and her family need help in order to fund the only medication she can take for her rheaumatoid arthritis, which will cost $15,000.00 a year.
Katherine contracted Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis in her mid-forties. Her doctor finally put her on methotrexate, this is the only medicine that has helped with RA. She has taken this medicine for over 20 years, and it has damaged her liver. She was taken off methotrexate due to an increase in her liver count in May of this year. As soon as she did the RA returned with a vengeance. She had a liver biopsy with the results showing inflammation of the liver and liver damage.
Katherine is in such horrible pain, and she keeps telling us that she cannot live like this anymore. We cannot stand to see her in such intense pain. After studying her options, she decided to go back on Methotrexate because she was familiar with it and it helped her. The RA doctor told her that was not an option due to her liver damage and the only choice she had was to use Biologics. We knew it was extremely expensive and Katherine is only on Social Security.
She has not been eating nor sleeping due to intense pain and the only choice left was to put her on Morphine every 8 hours. She just sits there and rocks back and forth moaning with pain. We love her too much to see her in this condition. She has no life at this point and is losing all hope quickly. We have moved her upstairs to live on the couch. She goes from the couch to the chair and that is her existence. She is so discouraged and keeps telling me she cannot stand it anymore. We are so desperate, and using a biologic is our last hope.
Anything helps and it is critical that we get her started on the new medication as soon as possible as it will take up to 3 months to start working, assuming it will.
