Running for Petey

Donation protected
Last year my husband and I being huge animal lovers decided to get involved with fostering dogs. Our first foster was a beautiful little pit bull terrier mix that we got after he was rescued from a drug bust. We named him Petey because as you can see, he looks just like the dog petey from "the little rascals".

Our family

Petey quickly went from a foster dog to our adopted dog and he has been an amazing addition to our family. We noticed early on however that he was very skittish around strangers and in new places, and over time, this skittish behavior has gotten progressively worse. We started getting nervous about the behavior and after meeting with countless dog trainers and animal behaviorists we have all come to realize that petey feels much more at home when he is surrounded by his own kind, little furry friends. It absolutely breaks our hearts, but because of his unpredictable, sometimes aggressive behavior it is impossible for us to keep him. We have looked into every option. Unfortunately, he has been deemed unadoptable because of his aggressive behavior and if we were to turn him over to a shelter he would be put down because of his behavior issues. Despite his unpredictable behavior around humans, oppositely, he gets along with every single dog he has ever met.  Because of this, we reached out to Spirit Animal Sanctuary.

Petey and his friend Bunny

Spirit Animal Sanctuary is a Not-For-Profit — No Kill — Home For Life for unwanted, unadoptable, sick and old dogs. It is located in Boonville, NY on 128 acres of forest and fields for running and playing, a river to swim in and people who will love and care for the dogs forever. The Sanctuary has saved over 500 dogs that would have otherwise been put down. The dogs become part of a loving family whose life mission is to provide food, shelter, care and love for all the dogs that require their help. Fortunately, after hearing Petey's story Spirit thought he would thrive there and have agreed to take him in.

We are so grateful to Spirit for giving Petey and all the other dogs there a second chance when no one else would.  This type of care though is not cheap, it costs $5,000 for each dog that is accepted into Spirit and this is why your donations are so greatly appreciated.  Please support us as we run a 10K race on November 22 in Central Park in honor of Spirit Animal Sanctuary so they can continue to save other dogs like our Petey. 100% of donations will go to spirit animal sanctuary and will in turn directly fund the care of Petey and all the dogs they have saved and will continue to save. Our goal is to raise $3,000 by the date of the race. You can donate directly through this page. Please repost this on social media, forward, and share. No donation is too small.
