Sy Naet at Rambert

When you have passion you can't help but DREAM BIG!

“The first time I came to the studio I was so scared.  I had never seen a space like that, I was scared of my teacher, I didn’t speak English yet and there were many kids from other NGOs there. But I was very curious and the more I danced the more I realized that I would not have this opportunity anywhere else….Because dance requires communication, commitment and passion in order to achieve it, it changed me into who I am today. Now I can't imagine not doing this. I won't be able to find this joy outside of dance.”  - Sy Naet

Sy Naet is a home grown Cambodian dancer who has experienced first hand the transformative power of dance.  Her dream is to reach her full potential as a dancer so she can share this experience with others. Sy Naet currently trains at English Ballet Theatre Cambodia in Phnom Penh and last year she took the initial step towards this dream by taking her first ballet exam with the Royal Academy of Dance in which earned the highest mark - Distinction .

“So many firsts - first time on a plane, first time outside Cambodia, first time on a train, first time in a different studio, first time eating Thai food, first time going to a museum, first time being a foreigner, first time taking a dance exam” - Sy Naet

Now her incredible journey continues.

Late in the evening of March 15th, in a small corner of Phnom Penh, cries of celebration were heard as we received the news that Sy Naet had been accepted into the world renowned Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London, a school with a prestigious history reaching all the way back to the Ballet Russe that has trained some of world's leading dancers and choreographers.  This is an incredible moment not only for Sy Naet but for Cambodia.

Now we want to give you the opportunity to play a role in this historic moment.  Would you make an investment in Sy Naet and by doing so make an investment in the the future of the Arts in Cambodia?

“Dance can shape our character, the way we think and looking at the problems in a different way.” - Sy Naet

Very few artists get the opportunity to study abroad at this level. That she was offered a place at Rambert is a testament to her dedication, passion and talent.

We do not have a lot of time to reach our goal and so we are thrilled to announce our first donation of £1000 to start this campaign as well as a $500 matching grant for the next $500.
