Jetts fight is our fight

Jett is a 18 month old HIE warrior. Jett’s birth was very traumatic, he was without oxygen at birth for about 10 minutes resulting him to be diagnosed with HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy) which in short means his brain was without oxygen. Jett was on total life support for about a week, he was in kidney failure, and he was having seizures that could not be controlled with medication. At around day 4 of life Jett had an MRI done to see the extent of the damage that was done to the brain from the lack of oxygen. The MRI showed severe global damage, but most was done to his basal ganglia. We were told That if Jett makes it out of the NICU he will never be able to smile, laugh, walk, eat, may never be able to breathe on his own, etc. we didn’t believe them for a second. There was just no way in heck we were going to believe that.

After that very first hard week Jetts body started to heal. Jetts seizures were controlled (and has since been controlled) with medication, he started to suck on a pacifier, which he then started to take bottles orally as opposed to the NG tube. Jett got off of the ventilator, and his kidneys started to heal. We were able to go home a little after he turned one month old. He made a complete turn around. Doctors have since been very wrong about our boy.

Jett has SO much personality. He has the biggest brightest smile that everyone comments just how contagious it is. He is funny, loving, and oh so smart! All of his therapists comment on how motivated and willing to learn he is. We are very blessed, and we are very proud to be his parents.

Although Jett has made some huge progress and despite all of his therapies, Jett is still severely delayed in gross and fine motor development which is very frustrating for him. Jett tries to do a lot, but his body doesn’t always cooperate with him. Jett was diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy from the HIE and he struggles with it everyday.

we are raising money for things that will have a life long impact on Jetts quality of life. We would love to have stem cell therapy done on Jett which has been proven to change children drastically. Some kids were able to walk unassisted, talk, or even have their seizures stop completely. We are hoping stem cell therapy will bring the same positive results to Jett. We also would love to give Jett the opportunity to attend an intensive therapy program. Intensive therapy has also been know to help kids drastically. And we just know Jett would benefit so much from that.

we believe our son is capable of a lot and we don’t want him to feel limited. So thank you so much for reading some of Jetts story and thank you for being a part of paving the way to his future.
