Equine Fusion Bushfire Recovery Fund
Donation protected
I’m holding this campaign for my cousin and friend, Tama who was badly impacted by the recent Australian bushfires that have ravaged our country these past weeks. She is not a person that finds it easy to ask for help and was very reluctant, but the work she does is so important, and rebuilding as fast as possible is vital. Her livelihood and passion is Equine Fusion – which brings healing to young people and women who have experienced trauma and does so much good for so many people – more info below on this. With the destruction of the fires (pics below), she is reeling and trying to fight and rebuild from scratch. This is made all the harder by her son being in hospital with a severe (unrelated to the fire) illness. She is trying hard to start the rebuild and organise while running on low sleep due to spending nights at the hospital. Juggling all this plus organising extra visits of the horses with her clients, who are also traumatised by recent events and are even more in need of their therapy.
If you can help in any small way, we thank you deeply.

Equine Fusion is a local business in East Gippsland, Victoria, which provides young people and women who have experienced trauma with access to horse-assisted interventions instead of traditional talk therapy. Equine Fusion is almost completely funded by community service organisations and grants. On December 31st, 2019, our property ‘Kanukadale’ in Goongerah burnt down. While the horses were all safely at our other location in Sarsfield, Victoria (where the fires burnt within 10m of the property and we were able to protect it using sprinklers and dam water), we have lost all of our sheds, equipment, and two homes that were lovingly built on Kanukadale. Unfortunately, though the property was insured, it had not been reviewed since 2000 and will only cover the cost of clean-up and rebuilding a small dwelling to live in. If you are interested in learning more about equine-assisted learning, please read on. Thank you for taking the time to consider helping us and the communities that have been ravaged by the bushfire crisis.

What Is Equine Fusion? Equine Fusion is a small, locally-owned business run by Tama Green. She and her herd work with young people and women who have experienced trauma in their lives and respond better to working with animals rather than traditional talk therapy. The participant is invited to spend time outside with the herd while being involved in a goal-focused intervention to develop self-awareness, relationship-building, and resilience skills. Tama’s bond with animals and horses runs deep. Her clients often exclaim at how the herd adore her, and the strong bond they share in their healing journey. Tama is passionate about helping people to thrive rather than survive in life, and has worked hard over the years to build a service for the community that enriches the lives of local kids and women. Aside from helping people, Tama pays careful attention to the horse’s role and needs, and acknowledges that the work can be draining for the horse too – which is when they’re given a ‘holiday’ on the previously peaceful, lush river flats of Kanukadale in Goongerah. Our beloved ‘Kanukadale’ property was lost when the bushfires destroyed a large portion of the remote town of Goongerah in Far East Gippsland on the 31st of December, 2019. Tama has lived there and worked with horses on the property since the late 90’s, and over the last seven years has split her time between locations as family commitments required a move to a bigger town for her son’s education. All of the horses are now being kept on the Sarsfield property now and we feel so lucky to have that intact despite the charred ground surrounding us on all sides... but now we are facing a bigger rebuilding project in Goongerah than we ever could have imagined.

Thank you for your support, even if all you can spare for us is a positive thought – we appreciate you!
