As an incredibly small means of contributing to the fight for equality we are collecting books for children that share stories of people of color and diversity and confront race, racism, and equality.
Why is this important
- To bring the topic of inclusion and equality into family and classroom discussions
- To help black and diverse children feel seen and heard with stories that have characters that look like them and celebrate them
- To expose today’s children to stories where they see and appreciate diversity and comprehend the history of inequality so they can be a generation better than ours
How you can help
All donations collected from this gofundme will go towards purchasing books from black owned bookshops -- please message us if you have any bookstores to suggest! We will reach out to you to share the books we purchased with the donated funds.
If you would rather choose a book directly please visit our amazon wishlist. Many books are under $5 dollars and almost all requested books are under $10 dollars :)
How we are distributing the books
- Free book pick ups: We will be providing these books in free book pick ups the first planned book pick-up will be in front of the Alex Haley statue in downtown Annapolis on June 13th. The books are completely free, but we will also be collecting donations for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. Please stay tuned for additional locations
-Partnering with Teachers: We will also be partnering with teachers to provide these books to their classrooms and school libraries
