Cody Charles Blackburn
, age 35, owner of Cody Blackburn Plumbing of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Mike Roberts. Burial will follow in the Goshen Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, September 20 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Cody was born April 20, 1979 in Nashville. He was the son of Barry Charles Blackburn and Gaylyn Paulette Hinson and a 1997 Graduate of Columbia Central High School. Following in the family tradition he owned and operated Cody Blackburn Plumbing. He was highly respected and adored by his customers for his professionalism and natural talent. He possessed both “common sense” and “book knowledge”. In a conversation with Cody, you were likely to be the one to learn something new. Without hesitation, his family uses words such as “creative, giving and polite” to describe him.

He loved to work with his hands and create beautiful gifts for family. Some of his greatest creations, though, came off his grill. He could easily be described as a master when it comes to grilling.

Cody was greatly respected by those who knew him, and quickly became a friend to those he just met. There were no strangers in his world, just people to serve and help. He could be contacted by friends, family or customers at any time and be available to them.

Above all the things for which Cody will be remembered, his greatest achievement will be that of being “Gage’s father.” He adored his son and centered his life around Gage’s world.

In addition to his son: Briton Gage Blackburn, he is survived by Gage’s mother: Melissa Malone; a step-son: Seth Holloway; his father: Barry Charles Blackburn (DeeDee Hay) of Columbia; and mother: Gaylyn Hinson Morris (Paul Bender) of Paducah, KY; 3 sisters: Crystal Blackburn and Courtney (Ray) Jeter of Columbia, and Heather Blackburn of England; step-mom: Martha Hayes (Ken) of Columbia; Paternal Grandmother: Elizabeth (Bobby) Bishop of Columbia; aunts and uncles: Connie Blackburn Baker, Randy (Brenda) Blackburn, Cathy (Mark) Perryman, Rhonda (Bill) Krambs, Charles Michael Hinson and Barry Todd Hinson; nieces and nephews: Hunter Smith, Brannon Jeter and Andrea Jeter; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather: Baxter O. Blackburn; maternal grandparents: Eddie Paul Hinson and Sylvia Gay Barber; and an uncle: Anthony P. Hinson.
