My name is Maureen Owens. I am 62 years old. I have been married to my husband Bob for 26 years. I am asking for your help to help me pay for medical bills. I was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Thynoma. I have a malignant tumor on my Thymus gland. It is inoperable at this time. I have been out of work since Aug. 30. My husband is retired but has taken 2 part time jobs to try to make ends meet. That will only go so far when bills keep coming in.
This all started with a yearly appointment in July with my primary doctor. She listened to my heart murmur and something sounded "different". I then started with the tests, which included labs, an xray, an echo, a CT scan. They all found a big mass in my chest approx. 6 1/2in x 4 in.
I had an appt. with a surgeon named Dr O'Shea. @ St Vincent's Hospital. He ordered a PET scan to see excactly where the cancer was. My insurance company denied that test. This is the beginning of problems with my insurance company.
I had a biopsy on Aug 30 at St Vincent's. They called the day before and said it was $1000 CO PAY! Who has that! Get the Credit card out! Anyway, I was there for 4 days and I am still not completely healed from the incision that was made.
Finally, I had an appt. with oncology in Gardner after numerous phone calls by me to get treatment going! I saw Dr Khanani who was very nice, as was everyone there. He seemed to think I should have radiation. No place around here would take my insurance. I would have to go to Nashua NH! I went there and saw Dr Zhou and she thought I needed Chemo first. So back to Gardner!
Finally had a date to start Chemo. It would be 3 days in a row to start. Insurance took days before they would approve one of the medicines. Crazy! Oncology called first thing on the morning of Oct 4 said get here now, insurance approved, Sat down, got ready and they called the pharmacy, medicine was not in. Very disappointing. Another date has been scheduled for Chemo, then will have to go through radiation at some point 5 days a week in Nashua.
I thank my husband and my siblings for being there for me anytime I need them for support!
