A couple of weeks ago I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst and endometriosis. The specialist who I've seen has told me that we need to completely remove my left ovary and check to see how far the endometriosis has spread to my other reproductive organs. Depending on the severity, more may have to be removed.
Because of my high insurance deductible through my work health insurance ($3000), I am having to pay for my tests and procedures completely out of pocket until the cost is above $3000. I currently owe $1000 for the ultrasound that identified the cyst and the surgeon who I have scheduled to remove my ovary is asking for $1700 up front to perform the surgery. They do not take payment arrangements. I will also have additional fees to pay for the hospital stay and anesthesiologist. This whole situation will likely end up taking me to my full out-of-pocket max of $6800.
As a single mother who works in non-profit/education, I do not have this kind of money saved up. If I do not get this surgery now, my other option is only to wait until the cyst is so bad that I have to go to the emergency room to have the surgery I need.
If I wait, the endometriosis will grow and cause me to need more of my reproductive organs removed (potential hysterectomy). I am only 30 years old and I am terrified of the idea of losing my fertility and going through menopause.
I have had several friends suggest that I start this donation campaign and so I humbly ask for your support in taking care of my health. If you feel so inclined, please share what you are comfortable with and please pass the campaign along so others can share if they would like.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
