Alice needs our help!!! Alice has a brain tumor. She has encountered a new challenge in her life. I asked our sweet humble friend to give me a brief history of what has gone on in her life over the last six weeks. I decided to set up this site for anyone who wanted to donate to assist Alice on her road to recovery. This money will be used to cover any expenses not covered by insurance and generally all-around to help her stay afloat until she recovers. Due to her circumstances Alice has been unable to work for the last 3 months. Any donation, big or small, will make a huge impact on Alice's future. This is the update
I was asked to give a little background on “my story”. It’s a hard thing to do when you are putting something out there that makes you feel so vulnerable and is so personal but here I go.
My name is Alice Adamson Barrett. I grew up in Birmingham. Was married to for almost for 20 years and have lived all over the country. My marriage like most did not survive and I am now a single Mom with 3 (almost grown) children, which I have raised on my own without any help for the last 8 years. I now live in Daphne, Al. I work for a company that sub-contracts catastrophe adjusters to all the major insurance carriers throughout the country. I am an independent adjuster. We are independent contractors so we are only paid when we are working. I have been blessed to have worked as often as I have for this company until recently. I noticed back in November the migraines I sometimes suffer from were becoming more frequent and my vision was becoming more blurred. Me being the stubborn person I am, finally decided to give in to my age and go to the eye doctor. My exam went great they prescribed me some glasses and off I went back to work as usual. I continued to have headaches but shrugged them off to the stress that was related to my job. I was released from my job around Christmas and was able to spend Christmas with my children (which is something I haven’t been able to do in almost 5 years!!) and life was good. I was then called back to work in GA due to the Ice Storms we had in January. In early March I noticed my vision was becoming blurred again but thought that perhaps it was the glasses or they didn’t give me the proper prescription and continued to work as usual. At this point my headaches were becoming more frequent, again I shrugged them off to stress due to the job. I continued with the blurred vision and what became to be almost daily migraines. I released myself from work in June and thought that rest is what I needed. Unfortunately that was not the case. I visited my family doctor gave her the laundry list of my ailments. She set up an appointment with a doctor to address the headaches almost immediately. I met with the Neurologist within 2 days who scheduled an MRI/MRA and a follow up appointment. When it was time for my appointment my youngest daughter, who is also a patient of this Doctor, asked me if I wanted her to go with me. I said “No baby, it’s no big deal, he’s going to put me on medicine like you and I will be home in a bit”. Boy was I wrong. The doctor came in asked me how I was doing, in which I replied, fine now that we are going to get to the bottom of these silly headaches. He came over to the table gently grabbed my hand and told me in the most gentle tone, Ms. Barrett, you have a brain tumor. I could have sworn someone had secretly snuck into the room and punched me in the gut when I wasn’t looking. He then continued to say that it was benign, which I was thinking to myself and realized I said it out loud “Praise God”. He then went on to tell me the size, which at this time is about the size of a large grape, and that we would have to do a lot more test to determine the growth rate and other factors. He stated the tumor lies in the area that is affecting my vision, causes migraines (go figure) and some motor skills. I will continue to have series of test to determine other factors and what others areas of the brain that may be involved as we are still in the infancy stage of this diagnosis. This is all surreal but my faith is strong and I know that God is holding my hand through all of this. I am thankful for my family and friends and for the strength that He has given me.

Well I think as y'all can all see in spite of everything Alice is still Alice optimistic, hopeful and walking in her faith. I know in my life Alice and her sweet family have been the first ones to jump in and help in a time of need. Alice is a giver let's bless her humble heart. This is her time to be on the receiving end. Let's show her the love and receive the blessing of giving in her own heart.
