Chemo Treatments

A huge thank you for taking the time from your day.

As some of you may be aware, I have been friends with Daisei for 15 years. I live in Canada but have spent a fair amount of time in Japan. Over the years, my best friend, Daisei, has become my family member and as his family grows i've become more entwined in their branches.

My plea today is to build awareness, and ask for help, from the greater community for the facts and details that follow:

Daisei is 34 years old, lives in Tokyo with his wife, Ikue, and 4 year old daughter, Hana. He is a talented graphic designer by trade but no longer able to work.

Daisei has been diagnosed and fighting cancer of the adenoids that spread to his cervical vertebrae. He has undergone 3 surgeries, removing neck muscle and implanting steel plates. The surgeries were to prevent vertebral collapse and quadra/para-plagia, but have left Daisei with paralysis to one side of his face.

In Japan, for this type of cancer, only 8 treatments of chemotherapy are provided for free. Daisei has just finished his 8th.  The results of the PET scan are positive, in that the cancer has reduced in size since February and continuing treatments is even a possibility. However, each treatment at this stage now cost $2350.00 US and its unknown how many he might need to eradicate the cancer completely. He has otherwise exhausted treatment options within his country.

Ikue, Daisei's wife, is also fighting her own battle with cancer. Diagnosed with breast cancer, Ikue is undergoing similar treatments of chemotherapy and had many surgeries.

Daisei and Ikue want nothing more than the best life for their daughter and spend all their energy on sourcing and making healthy food, providing her with the best childhood, opportunities, and education they are able, though their strength, mobility and capabilities, are challenged by their disease.

Daisei and Ikue have some coverage from their previous employers and insurance but can no longer meet the financial needs of treatment costs.

Today, I am pleading and asking with all my heart that if it is at all possible for you to donate to Daisei and Ikue to help with medical and treatment costs, please help. The finances will be available to Daisei and Ikue to withdraw from directly, and we're working to set that up as we learn how to operate this program.

There is a proverb :  'Chiri mo tsumoreba yama to naru' that translate to 'Even dust piled up becomes a mountain'.      Please help build these mountains, so Hana may keep her rocks in life for more years to come.
