I'm Loreto Campos from Chile. I was in Australia on a working holiday visa when I had a serious accident in March 2024 riding my bike with a broken pelvis and acetabular.

The total hospital bill was $47,000, and my insurance covered around $35,000, leaving a gap due to some uncovered X-rays. I've already paid about $5,000, but still i need to pay 6,430 in total. Wich is 4,430 from Canberra hospital and 2000 from Alfred hospital. The hospital contacted me telling about I have just 12 month to pay all

Now that I'm back in Chile, I'm finding it extremely difficult to pay this amount, as the hospital wants me to settle the debt within 12 months. However, the cost of living and income levels are much lower here, making it challenging for me to meet the payment demands. If I don't pay, the debt will be sent to a debt collector and will give me problems for the new visa
