Epic Ethic: A Recycled T-shirt Initiative

Now more than ever is a time to focus on our impact on the planet. More and more people are becoming increasingly aware of the change in our climate and the role we’ve played in it, as well as the responsibility we now have to lessen or reverse it.

My name is Danielle, I'm 29 years old and from Denver, Colorado. While living overseas in 2018, I sat down to think about what job I wanted when I returned home. I had been teaching special education prior to the move, but didn't love teaching the way I always imagined I would. I sat there and asked myself, "If money was no object, what would I do with my time?" I'm extremely passionate about the treatment of both animals and the environment and wanted to help both in ways more than I already was through my personal lifestyle choices. Immediately the idea of Epic Ethic came to my mind.

It can take 2,700 liters (713 gallons, enough for one person to drink for 900 days) to produce the cotton needed to make a single t-shirt. Epic Ethic strives to lessen the environmental footprint by rebranding shirts already manufactured but deemed unwanted, as well as supporting different charities by donating a percentage of sales to causes that align with the company’s ethics and beliefs. Epic Ethic's biggest goal is to one day open our own farm animal sanctuary.

Our product is a recycled and rebranded shirt. Each shirt is unique in that it once had a different story; one may have been a band tour shirt, one may be from an old high school or college, one may have been from a 5k or even a marathon, etc. With the original history of the shirt still present, Epic Ethic’s logo brings new life, style, and use to shirts that would otherwise be wasted. Because of this, we are helping to save landfills of textile waste (estimated at 25 BILLION POUNDS yearly in the U.S. alone) as well as saving water by not producing new shirts.

I need your help to make Epic Ethic a reality. Funds will be used towards creating an LLC, purchasing shirt rebranding materials such as a heat press, environmentally-friendly ink, transfer paper, website costs, recycled shipping packaging, zero-waste shipping labels, any many other costs that incur in starting and maintaining a business. Any donations beyond what is needed to start Epic Ethic will go towards its sustainability. I have been working on the logistics of Epic Ethic for over a year, and am so excited to be able to take the step in creating this project to better the planet and those we share it with. Please consider supporting a cause that benefits many!
