My niece Amber and her husband BJ were recently introduced to a very painful disease through their daughter 8 year old Peyton.
She was a normal healthy happy go lucky kid. She has the sweetest personality and is always smiling. She loves life and was a very active young lady. A couple of months ago she started having swelling and knee pain. They thought she hurt her knee and took her to the doctor. Thus began the journey in finding out it wasn’t a normal knee injury.
Peyton was recently diagnosed with PolyArticular Juvenile Arthritis and tested positive for the ANA antibody (has to do with eyes) and negative for the RH factor. With this diagnosis Peyton has to have chemo injections every week. This disease is a lifelong autoimmune disease. This family is looking at years of medical expenses for expensive medications, medical test and procedures. There is hope for remission, but at this time, no cure. This sweet girl has to deal with swelling joints throughout her body. She is limited in restrictions and can’t be a normal 8 year old even with the treatments. She is missing a lot of school with appointments and just not feeling good.
Amber and BJ have their own CrossFit business and do not have insurance.
