1. About Us
Hello everyone! We are a group of 4 British geology students (aged 20–21) from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. This summer, we will be undertaking a 5-week self-led geological mapping expedition in Greenland.
2. About the charity
We will raise funds for the registered charity Greenland Trees (https://greenlandtrees.org/), alongside our fieldwork. This organisation, run by scientists, strives to create climate awareness by planting trees in southern Greenland, where climate change is most pronounced. They plant native species, support international polar climate research, increase biodiversity by restoring the landscape and work with Greenland’s inhabitants and support education in the local community and schools. The money you donate will directly support these causes and help tackle climate change where its impacts are being felt most today.
3. Purpose of the Expedition
Our goal is to map a geologically significant but poorly studied region in Southern Greenland on a plateau surrounded by fjords and glaciers. The area was last mapped in limited detail over a decade ago, and scientific understanding has since progressed.
4. Expedition Conditions
The area is remote and prone to extreme weather. With five weeks of camping ahead, we’re bracing ourselves for a tough expedition, plenty of hard graft, a few tears, and probably some questionable cooking. We’ve all got our fingers crossed that the only bear we see is a teddy bear.

5. How we are raising money?
Essentially, we’re going to be doing stupid challenges and videoing them all for your enjoyment. We’re extremely passionate about sustainability and giving back to the local community, so any help we receive would be amazing.
5. Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability will be at the core of our expedition. Our team will strive to leave a positive impression by engaging with the community and ensuring our presence does not disrupt daily life.
We will minimise our environmental impact by ensuring no waste is left in the field or at the campsites, keeping campsite disturbances to a minimum, and taking care to avoid any actions that could harm the local flora and fauna.
Sampling will be conducted responsibly and minimally to avoid unnecessary disturbance to the area's geological features.
All supplies and equipment will be carefully selected and transported with sustainability in mind. Shipping will be used to reduce our carbon emissions. Where possible, we will reuse or rent equipment to reduce waste and resource consumption.
Additionally, drinking water will be sourced directly from the field area to reduce plastic waste.
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
