Ensure For Elliot

This is my mom and brother Elliot. Elliot is severely autistic. He is non-verbal with a fear of solid foods. Due to this and his OCD he will only drink the nutritional supplement called “Ensure”. He is so smart that he can even tell the difference in brand. He will only use a bottle to drink and it has been incredibly stressful when he finds something wrong with the bottle. About 2 months ago our insurance stopped covering Elliot’s monthly shipment of Ensure. He used to get cases of it since that was the only thing he would consume. He has been evaluated by our doctor and specialists for years. We hope to get him closer to solid foods eventually but our biggest concern is making sure he will drink Ensure. The insurance stopped covering the Ensure because they thought Elliot was healthy enough overall without considering that being his source of nutrition. My mom has filed a 2nd appeal that we are hoping our doctor can get through to them with for the 2nd time. This ultimately has been a huge financial strain on our family. With the amount of cans/bottles of ensure he drinks, my mom has ended up spending about $800 on ensure in the last 2 months. My mother is a single mom raising 6 kids. I am the oldest and I’ve seen how hard this has been on her. She herself is sick with Graves’ disease and I also have a brother who had a stroke the day he was born as well as a sister who is autistic and has type 1 diabetes. My mom doesn’t know I made this go fund me but I am hoping this will help her because she is an amazing strong and compassionate human being who has been given a handful of challenges that she dedicates her life to.
