Enrico's Fund

Cancer is a bitch. We all know how awful this disease is, but at least in Australia we have high-quality care that is available to all. In the Philippines this is not the case and those who can’t afford treatment simply don’t get it. This is the situation my friend Enrico is currently in.

A few years ago, Enrico moved to Sydney on a student visa. He left his family behind (including his young children) to work in Australia and better support all of his relatives. Unfortunately the last 12 months have not been kind to him. Last year Enrico’s sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is receiving ongoing treatment but this has created a significant financial burden. Last week, Enrico received the terrible news that his 15 year old son has been diagnosed with advanced Leukaemia.

I am aware that most people who read this will not know Enrico personally but he is one of the kindest and hardest working people I know. I’ve worked with him at the hospital for 4 years and despite an hours-long commute, his study commitments and all of the financial pressure he is under, I have never seen him in a bad mood. When he first told me about his sister’s illness, he asked me not to tell management because he didn’t want them to preference him over other workers with the roster. That’s the kind of selfless person Enrico is.

He doesn’t know that I’ve made this page and he might be upset with me when he finds out, but I know that any money we can raise will help him out enormously.
