Engine Needed to Keep Refugee Music Programs Alive - Uganda

Tax deductible
Dear Friends and Family,

For the past many years, Musical Ambassador Abaho Gift Conrad has been a lifeline for thousands of refugees living in the Kyaka, Rwamwanja, and Nakivale settlements of Uganda. Through music, dance, drumming, and community gatherings, Abaho and his team create rare spaces of joy, connection, and emotional healing for former conscripted child soldiers, single mothers, elders, and youth who have endured unimaginable hardship. His van has been the heartbeat of this work — carrying people to and from events, transporting drums and tents, delivering food and supplies, and making it possible for his team to reach communities spread across vast distances.

Today, that lifeline is in crisis. The van’s engine has completely failed after years of over-heating issues and long-distance travel, and it can no longer run. With the dollar’s exchange rate dropping sharply in Uganda, costs have skyrocketed. Abaho now has to rent vehicles just to hold the programs at all — a cost that is simply unsustainable. Replacing the engine with a reliable Toyota 1KZ-TE model will cost $3,800–$4,500, and without it, the entire operation slows to a crawl.

This van isn’t just a vehicle — it is the means by which music reaches children who have known only war, where community is rekindled, and where healing takes root. By helping Abaho repair this van, you are directly supporting the continuation of life-changing programs that restore hope, dignity, and joy in some of the most vulnerable places in the world.

If you feel moved, please contribute what you can and share this campaign. Let’s get Abaho back on the road — and keep the music alive.

Any funds raised beyond the cost of the engine will be used to support Abaho’s ongoing programs and to strengthen the work of our Musical Ambassadors around the world. This includes covering essential bank and administrative fees and ensuring that, once the van is back on the road, these life-changing projects can continue to grow and thrive.
