End of Life Costs and Funeral for Shantella

   It comes now that we regret to inform you all of the heart wrenching news that our mother, your daughter, sister, auntie, niece and friend Shantella Blackmon has been called home. 01/22/2020 On this day her children along with the support of family members physically and spiritually were called back to her as he took her home; she’d passed away peacefully. We thank you all for your love, support, suggestions, shared family experiences and knowledge.

We respectfully ask for privacy at this time. As one can imagine how unbearable this can be for all of us.

 Diagnosis 

On Saturday, January 4, 2020 as most of you know... our mother was rushed to the hospital. She’d unexpectedly suffered an acute respiratory failure, a post cardiac arrest attack and an anoxic encephalopathy as well...

As of January 7, 2020 she was diagnosed as a vegetarian state, or unaware and unresponsive state due to what the brain underwent. As day’s followed, multiple tests results supported that diagnosis. On January 13, 2020, more results were disclosed, we’d learned our mother’s condition had worsened. Test results and x-rays showed that the brain had swollen. Heart rate percentage dropped lower than 15% and organs began to fail. And unfortunately today it eventually claimed her life.

Our mother was a beautiful, keen intellect and fearless woman, both inside and out. Incredibly strong willed and minded. Her hearty smile and charisma would light up a room. She had plans of standing by her three daughters’ side this year; as they delivered their newborns this January, March & May. She’d dreamed of watching her youngest daughter Ariana graduate early. Hopes of witnessing her grandchildren growing into the beautiful adults they are becoming.

This sudden tragedy has shaken our family. Our hearts, shattered as we try gathering the pieces and strength to carry on without her. As if that was not enough, we now face the sudden expenses of planning a proper service. One here in Terre Haute, IN... Where herself and six children have lived and our families and friends are. And one back HOME, in Chicago, IL. Where our mother was born, raised and lived some of her greatest and most happiest years with her family, her mother, brothers, sisters and lifelong friends!
