Encourage the Bell-Beals Family

Bring Glad Tidings to the Bell-Beals Family!

The friends of Bryan Bell, Tracy Beals, and their daughter, Amalia, are raising funds to support this family following the unexpected and unmerited loss of a job (a brief account of which is given below).

We hope through crowdfunding to encourage them and provide modest financial support of $10,000 a year over the next three years, as Bryan goes back to school to complete pre-requisites and gain his certification as a registered nurse.   This abrupt change, while demanding and unanticipated, is far from the end of the story for such a resilient family.

This campaign was launched to help Bryan, Tracy, and Amalia write the next chapter in their life together, full of hope. If funds are raised that are in excess of their needs, Bryan and Tracy will donate to local charities.  If you're not able to contribute financially, then please go out and love people today with beautiful acts of kindness, encouragement, mercy, and justice. We can all be part of writing that story for one another!

For those who do not know this family directly, it is important to understand the background of this fundraising campaign:

Bryan worked at Olympic National Park as a Wilderness Ranger and at the Wilderness Information Center for 23 years. For twelve years, he was in charge of the park's Wilderness Information Center in a "term" position, which lasted four years at a time, after which he would re-apply and be hired again to continue his job.

He was not a bureaucrat, but used his experience and knowledge of the park's backcountry, history, and natural history to help make wilderness experiences available to thousands of people, while safeguarding the health of Olympic's wild places.  Having hiked nearly every route in the park's 600-mile backcountry trail system, Bryan put this experience to use innumerable times during search and rescue efforts for lost or injured visitors.

Bryan has been decorated multiple times for work in Wilderness Stewardship, Visitor Service, and Search and Rescue.  He also served nationally within the Wilderness and Leave No Trace communities.

Last year, the decision was made to finally make Bryan's job a permanent position.  During this process, his term appointment was allowed to expire with no clear direction forward.   After months of waiting, Bryan was informed just after Thanksgiving that they hired someone else.

There are many who find this decision unfathomable.  Bryan is well known as a humble and thoroughly ethical leader and the loss of his skill and knowledge will be felt by both visitors and park staff.   However, we know that Bryan's caring nature, energy, and work ethic will be put to wonderful use serving people in his community as a nurse.

We, who have been profoundly blessed by Bryan's friendship, professionalism, and commitment to wild places, ask for your participation in two ways: 1) help to bridge the financial gap as this family strikes out in a new direction, and/or, 2) find ways to bless and encourage people around you!  Thank you!
