Send Enactus SMU to Nationals!

What is Enactus Saint Mary's? We are a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to help people in need transform lives to shape a better and sustainable world.

We ran a number of projects this year helping people throughout Nova Scotia!  Here are a few examples:

Girl Revolution is a two-part project that empowers girls by increasing their confidence and building their self-esteem. Exploring the social issues faced by girls, and offering a series of workshops on such topics as trust, creative expression, healthy relationships, anti-racism and violence prevention. The girls then identify a social issue they would like to change. Members of the Enactus SMU team work with the girls to help them develop their chosen project. Girl Revolution culminates with a girl "action" day, when the girls deliver their projects to the community.

OPtions is a program aimed at empowering at risk youth by  developing the youths knowledge for saving money, increasing employability skills and working on relationship building. Many of the youth are not financially stable, unable to budget paychecks and many would not be considered as a desirable loan candidate by a financial institution. Our program offers completely interest-free micro loans to the youth. Once the principal is repaid, they make a small contribution of their choice which is used to grow the fund for future loans. Each loan is specifically tailored to fit the applicant's individual needs, payback period, and repayment amounts. The OPtions program has impacted over 60 youth and loaned out over $7,000 to date.

Ryan's Project is one of our flagship environmental projects geared towards helping elementary school students to change their attitudes towards the environment and help them work within their school and their homes to make our city much greener. Currently the project works out of Ecole Burton Ettinger Elementary school where Enactus Saint Mary's goes in every Friday to engage them in environmental initiatives. This year the children are working to create a greenhouse at their school so that they can provide fresh food for their breakfast program.

So why do we need your help?  We prepare and practice presentations to showcase our projects and present them to a panel of business leaders acting as judges, some of which are the top CEO's in the country.

Each year we compete regionally and nationally. We just competed at Regionals in early March, taking first place in both Entrepreneurship and Financial Education. In order to compete at Nationals we need to fly our team to Toronto, ON in May.

We are currently ranked 4th in the country and have our sights set on the top spot.

In order to do it we need your help! Donate as much or as little as you can, every little bit helps.

If you donate more than $50 we'd love to thank you by sending you a post card from the competition in Toronto.
