Research shows that girls as young as 11 years old are peer pressured to use nail colors, hair color, lipsticks, fake eyelashes, foundation etc to beautify themselves. The mentality that a woman's value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality subtly continues to persist.
Money lies in feeding insecurities, for the fashion and beauty industries and they are succeeding. Research shows -
- Almost all women are unhappy with their bodies. Only 9% are comfortable with theirs.
- Young women feel pressured to be thin. 58% of college-aged girls agree.
- Eating disorders are prevalent in the young. 12-25 year olds make up the bulk of females with this problem.
Objectification of women degrades her value and obstructs her emergence in leadership roles.
We want a world where women and girls are confident and feel empowered. It starts with us - by having a conversation.
