<div>The lawsuit against the City of LA, housing agencies, Weingart and others has been filed. There is a hearing date set for a preliminary injunction. We are continuing the fundraising efforts to replenish the legal retainer, cover already completed legal work and complete the next steps. This is not a case about the location of a homeless shelter or one financial deal. This is a case about the systemic fraud and corruption in the homless housing projects funded within the state of CA. This case is a blueprint and could open the floodgates. We want to set precedent and we have all of the data. Help us expose the fraud and preserve the tax dollars that are intended to be helping people.

<div>The legal team's investigation has revealed serious concerns regarding inside dealing, concerns related to funding approvals and process, favoritism, and what appears to be concerns ranging from potential negligence to extreme corruption and worse.

<div><strong>PRIOR BACKGROUND (UPDATED AS OF FEBRUARY 4, 2026):</strong>

<div>In furtherance of our purpose to protect Cheviot Hills, Beverlywood, and the greater West LA area, we are fundraising to support replenishing a legal retainer, in order to prevent the proposed use of 3340 Shelby Drive as an interim homeless shelter. We are concerned about safety and impending risks to the welfare of the neighborhood should this project move forward.

<div>Neighbors are the named plaintiffs in the legal action and are in process with their attorney, but the plaintiffs need the financial support of the entire neighborhood to continue moving the action to its required next steps. In 2024, a group of us sought funding from the neighbors and explored other potential claims related to property law, zoning, permit and other property use. This was a necessary first step.

<div>To very briefly summarize, we learned that we did not have standing as taxpayers to litigate on those zoning bases, given the emergency declaration on homelessness that was then in effect, which allowed projects such as Shelby to bypass typical public and environmental reviews. However, our time and money spent was quite important and did not go to waste, as it was the foundation for our Public Records Act (PRA) request. Concurrent with our initial legal exploration, we received responses from the PRA - over 5,000 pages of agreements, contracts, and emails, by and among the Mayor's office, Councilwoman's office, Weingart Center, Los Angeles Housing Department, and more. We spent one full year analyzing the materials, preparing memos and timelines, which ultimately made their way to the US State Attorney for the Central Distrcit of CA (Bill Essayli) and his task force, which is investigating fraud related to homelessness spending. The intermediary in the sale of Shelby to Weingart has been indicted, Weingart's CEO and another employee are on leave, and there is an ongoing federal criminal investigation related to Weingart and this property acquisition.

<div>Given the availability of the public record, the current criminal bank fraud investigation, research, and the safety risks to the neighborhood, the neighbors are now in a place where they can pursue critical legal steps to advance their case, and hopefully stop the future operations of this shelter at its current location. A group of neighbors has been pursuing engagement opportunities for the community with our Councilwoman's office, writing letters to all of the relevant representatives, and succeeding with many modes of media exposure. All of these angles are important, and hopefully it is the combination of them that helps the community achieve its goals related to protection, safety, and social welfare for the public good.

<div>Based on feedback we have received from the applicable agencies and other experts, we believe that the proposed legal steps are crucial, and that without taking these steps, the neighbors are significantly less likely to stop the shelter's operations. We want them to continue this fight in order to protect the safety of the entire neighborhood, protect the safety of families, protect property values, fight for transparency, community engagement, accountability, and an improved political process. Many neighbors have devoted endless hours, sleepless nights, on top of full time jobs and while raising children. The plaintiff neighbors are willing to put their names on the legal documents. But they are not able to fund this alone. The neighbors need the entire community to come together and continue to support this very important step.

<div>Any type of potential litigation is expensive, but please know that any donation amount helps. We initially fundraised for $50,000 ($40,000 was the cost of the initial retainer, plus also includes GoFundMe's 2.9% processing fees, costs to incorporate and apply for tax exempt status and operate for the first year, website creation, and other administrative and marketing fees - all of which are deemed critical to support a successful mission). The amount raised in 2024 was for an initial legal fund (which has since been used as described above).

<div><strong><em>As already noted above</em></strong>: As of February 2026, we are continuing the fundraising efforts to replenish the legal retainer. The legal action is in process and this secondary payment to the legal team would ensure they can continue to act on the alleged claims. Their investigation (following new rounds of public records requests in 2026), revealed serious concerns regarding inside dealing, concerns related to funding approvals and process, favoritism, and what appears to be concerns ranging from potential negligence to extreme corruption and worse.
